Changes to the 1970s Crissy room

We have made a couple changes to our attic 1970s room
The first big change you will notice is bunk-beds!
They are another rattan bath rack I found thrifting.

Yes, there are now some bunk-beds creating a dividing wall between
Lisa and Sarah's room and Nellie's sewing room.

There is also a new dresser
BEFORE & AFTER
I found this jewelry box/dresser in a thrift store.
I touched up some dings in the paint.
I was thinking I would repaint the drawer fronts but
The bee, ladybug and sunflower work in this room.

There is also a new denim heart pillow and a couple new
flower pattern pillows for Lisa and
Sarah's corner daybeds.

WAIT! (you may ask) That bunkbed is too small for Lisa and Sarah!
You are right.

Say hello to Velvet and...

Cricket!

Velvet is a 1972 Ideal Velvet doll and
Cricket is a 1971 Cricket doll.

Welcome to the Savage Doll House Velvet & Cricket.

I know! Funny how these dolls just keep showing up?!?

Yeah, I have the same problem here too... ;)

I saw one of those racks last week in a thrift store last week and I thought of you!

Hehe. yeah I thought you might have this doll problem too. I also can't seem to stop finding doll-size items when I am thrifting....hhhm.

Wow! Now you have someone who looks like my friend Velvet, and Cricket too!

OK I'm drooling over here! Those dolls look fabulous! And you've done me one better, b/c I never had Cricket!

I have to admit I LOVE my Cricket. I actually had a Cricket as a girl, never a Crissy, so now I have both! And Velvet is just SO cute and she was a deal I couldn't pass up. Then I found, when I started looking that Crickets, that she is hard to find!

Oh, also! Yes both the Cricket and Velvet dolls had amazing hair. Both in really good condition. Both their ponys are still full and long! Cricket's pony reaches her ankles!

Yes, she is hard to find, so you're very lucky! It sounds like you got a first edition Hair To Floor Cricket. So cool. As a child I had Crissy, and my cousin Aundrea had a black Velvet doll. The Velvet I have is a "Beauty Braider" Velvet. I may get the black version one day. Congrats on your groovy find!

Thanks! I am having fun play...I mean being a serious doll collector.

Have you seen these?? I just came across them on Ebay and looked up the website. I guess they are somewhat based on the Crissy line. Uh oh...would love to have the Liz doll...

I did see these dolls on Ebay but thought they must be Velvet dolls re-rooted. Wow, quite a line of dolls. I had no idea!

@ Flo...

Yeah, but they're outrageously expensive! Especially when you can get nice Velvet and friends dolls on the secondary market. I wonder if they bought the Cricket mold from them? ('cos that's who are w/ different hair and clothing, except w/o the grow-hiar feature).

@Brenda...

There was a Country Fashion version of Crissy who was basically a brown haired Velvet doll released in the 80s. Instead of a knob on her back, she had a pull string mechanism, which really didn't work too well, from what I'm told. It tangled the hair easily.

I agree with you Julie. I thought they were Velvet dolls. I looked at one of the country Crissy but decided to look for a Cricket instead. I'm glad I chose my Cricket I had no idea about the poor hair mechanism.

I don't think they are selling all that well, price may be the problem. I wonder if the clothing is interchangeable with the Crissy/Velvet line?

So funny, I was just looking to see if they sold the clothes separately. It looks like they have somehow got a Velvet mold, so I would assume they are the same size. I think they are WAY too expensive as well. Maybe they were banking on the popularity of the Crissy doll line, without considering that the Crissy dolls are valued for their history and nostalgia as much or more than their appearance?

Those dolls have the same body as Velvet, Mia, Cricket, Tara and Dina, and the face is a Cricket mold, (which still has me wondering about if this mold was really purchased from the defunct Ideal Co. or simply "acquired" ). I also wonder if the founder of this company did any research on the Crissy/Velvet family, because it doesn't seem like they know that the original dolls are so easy to find. There are also some folks on Ebay and Etsy who sew for these lines, so outfits are also easy to come by (although some are quite expensive). *hint hint Brenda, sell these great clothes on Etsy!* I have more Crissy sized clothes than I do Velvet, but it's coming slowly.

I had some of the same questions. It would be interesting to do some research about old doll molds and if they become public domain after so many years or what? You have started me thinking about trying Etsy again. I never got much movement on Etsy always did better on eBay, but maybe that has changed? I agree with you that this manufacturer must not have done too much research on this style doll.

The fact that there isn't a growing hair mechanism and that they are changed ever so slightly may be enough to have gotten them off the hook. There are some buyers for these dolls though, I checked out their Facebook page and lots of testimonials. A lot of people don't buy from Ebay or Etsy at all or don't want to be bothered. I know personally I probably would buy new over old only because of a severe mold allergy, I have to be extremely careful in that regard with anything used. I've had a few bad experiences that darned near landed me in the hospital. But doubtful at the prices they are charging.
