I am trying to sew more and buy less.
I wanted some more tops for my H4H dolls.
In particular I wanted a baseball style shirt, sometimes called raglan.
I looked on the web at images of raglan patterns and tried to make one that would fit my 14" dolls.
Here is my first try. A little too big, so I had to add a dart in front.
I am trying to think of something to do to make it look like it belongs there,
maybe a couple little buttons?
OK, here it is with flower buttons added.
I think I like it.
I scaled down the pattern and made this second version.
I am actually VERY happy with this tee.
I also have another two versions of my favorite top pattern for these dolls.
This pink gingham and....
a red hanky top.
I love this red hanky fabric on Layla.
Oh, and in case you were wondering where I found these
adorable tennies here is the link:

I have a very important question for you sewers and bloggers alike.
Do you think I should post 'free' patterns when there are so many
people trying to make money by selling doll patterns?
I have a very important question for you sewers and bloggers alike.

SO, after some feedback I decided to add the Raglan Tee pattern below.
Remember be sure to print out 8.5" x 11".
I think it's fine to post free patterns! We in the doll world can make good use of them. I don't think you need to worry about those who make money selling doll patterns. Those patterns are often more complicated or specific than free patterns. Speaking for myself, I make and sell doll clothes on etsy. I use a variety of patterns - those I come up with myself (VERY simplistic), those I find free (I ALWAYS credit the site/designer and NEVER use those from people who specify not to use for making clothing to sell), vintage and modern pattern books, and vintage and modern commercial patterns. Sometimes, I even modify a free pattern; in that case I still give credit where it is due, but I indicate that I've modified it. I also collect dolls, so I use all these resources to make clothes for MY dolls. I would also like to add, if you DON'T wish people to use your patterns to make clothes to sell, and/or don't wish people to sell YOUR patterns, you need to be specific on your site to make sure that doesn't happen. I know this is long "vote", hope it helps!
ReplyDeleteThank you Elle! Your comments were very helpful to me. I think I will post the raglan pattern. I too use patterns from many different sources. My favorites are the American Girl Doll original patterns, but of course they would not fit these dolls, but I may try sizing some down...hm.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Elle, she brings up a lot of good points too.
ReplyDeleteI love the shirt after you added the buttons, that was just what it needed.
Thank you Flo! I will be adding the pattern after all. I was happy with the buttons too. I think it gives the illusion that the seam is closed by the buttons. :)
ReplyDeleteVery cute pattern. (Love the buttons.)
ReplyDeleteI wasn't able to print it, and wasn't sure if I copied/pasted on to a word doc if it would reproduce at the right size.
I will check to make sure the pattern saves OK and reply back. Oh and thanks, I liked the buttons too.
ReplyDeleteOK, so what you need to do is click on the image of the pattern. This gives an up-close view. Right click your mouse on this up-close image and 'save as' to your computer just like an image/photo. Then you should be able to open it in a photo viewer on your computer or insert it as an image into a WORD doc. If you insert it into a WORD doc. you will have to manipulate the image just like a picture and size it. I hope that makes sense?
ReplyDeleteThank you for this pattern! You did well in adapting it for the H4H dolls!
ReplyDeleteThank you I hope you enjoy it. I found this style tee really easy to put together and SO cute!
