A New Day

The day has come when Sophie is really no longer interested in her American Girl Dolls.  Sigh.
She is now in Middle School and WAY too mature for dolls.  I understand, but am not sure what to do with our blog. I am debating.  I admit I love the dolls as much as Sophie and I have been doing most of the posts this last year, but I must face facts, it will probably just be me from here on out.

I just wanted to create a mini album of our doll days together, Sophie our dolls and I.

Sophie & Brenda 2014

First day of Middle School

So, if you continue to check in on our blog I just wanted you all to know it's mostly me,
Brenda, the Doll Mom.
I hope someday, in the future, Sophie will grow up enough to want to play with dolls again.

  1. I know how you feel! I have always loved dolls and had them on a shelf in my living room. About six years ago my granddaughter wanted to play with Kirsten. I got her down for her to play Then she wanted one of her own, so I took her to the AG Store in Dallas. I taught myself to sew somewhat so the doll would have more than one outfit. Bought another doll for another granddaughter. Now the oldest granddaughter gave me her doll back and the younger one and I play. I actually think now I am more involved in the dolls than both girls. I buy and make clothes for them and set up scenes. Now for my birthday, anniversary and Christmas, I ask my husband for items for myself from AG. I am sad the girls don't play with the dolls as much, but I think it is fine for us grownups to still have fun with them!

  2. Linda, thank you so much for your kind words. I feel encouraged. I know I am not the only grown-up who still likes AG dolls. I too enjoy sewing for our dolls and creating scenes and rooms for them. So much fun! I don't think I will give it up.

  3. Hey, Brenda, if you enjoy the dolls, why not keep going? I started my "involvement" with AG dolls when my granddaughter got one for Christmas. I have loved making outfits and accessories for the doll and setting up her room. I think I may enjoy it more than my GD does. I don't think I would have done any of this on my own, but since I have started, it has become a creative outlet for me (the blog, the sewing and crafting), and something I enjoy doing. So, if you enjoy it, why not? There are MANY adult doll collectors out there and I say do what makes you happy!

  4. Thank you Dawn, I do enjoy the dolls and it is a creative outlet for me. Creating their rooms and sewing clothes and creating other doll projects has become a big part of my life. I will continue being the "Doll Mom". : )

  6. That has to be tough, especially since it was something that the two of you did together. However, I can see from your posts that you enjoy it, and by all means you should keep blogging and decorating and collecting! I've always been an adult AG collector, there were no little girls in my family who liked AG, so it was just me. I'll admit, it's kind of nice when you don't have to share LOL! I can relate though, my grand-niece was a Barbie fanatic and when she was younger I had a large collection of Barbie accessories, so I looked forward to her coming to visit. We even had a Barbie party. But then she grew up, and was no longer interested.

You may have noticed in my blog that I mention Barbie Girl. That is another niece who was also crazy about Barbie but never lost that addiction to it and is just as bad (if not worse!) as an adult. Maybe Sophie will come back to it eventually. I had a large gap where I didn't collect dolls of any kind and we both know how that turned out. ;)

  7. Thank you Flo. I think I will continue. I do enjoy the dolls so much, sewing and crafting things for their house. I think I struggle letting go of my little girl, truth be told. I appreciate your words of encouragement. Thank again

  8. Who knows? Your daughter may come back ans decide she wants to be an adult collector! (or even sooner!) I'm glad you'll still continue to blog! We'd miss you if you didn't!

  9. You are so right Julie! Thank you for being so encouraging. I was really not sure what I should do. I asked Sophie and she still wants her name to be on the blog, so that is hopeful!
