You will never believe what I found while I was working in the yard.
What?!?
It was in an old coffee can, I think it was a time capsule.
What?!?
It was in an old coffee can, I think it was a time capsule.
There was a letter inside, a letter to me!
How is that possible?
I don't know.
I'll read it to you.

I'll read it to you.
Greetings from the 70s!
Hello from Danny Campbell and Jason Gerard! We're best
friends. We're 9 & 10 years old, and in the 4th grade. We're gonna take
turns telling you a little bit about us!
Danny: Hi there, Martin. Gee, I hope this message makes it
to you, 'cos you see, it's 1975, and I put this message in a "Time
capsule" just like my friend Julie. I love comic books, action figures,
superheroes, monster movies, Hot Wheels cars,
baseball and skateboarding. My favorite foods are tacos and Oreo
cookies. My favorite superhero is Batman. My favorite television shows are the
Six Million Dollar Man and Super
Friends. Do you have a favorite super hero? Jason and I go to Camp Wilderness
every summer. Do you go to summer camp?
What kinds of cool things do you like to do?
Jason: OK, my turn now. Danny and I are best buddies, and
like a lot of the same things, only I think Superman is better than Batman. My
favorite foods are cheeseburgers and chocolate ice-cream and my favorite shows
are Starsky and Hutch and the Spider-man cartoon. I love to chew bubble gum and
can blow really big bubbles. Some people say I'm kind of a goofball, including
my teacher, Miss LaSalle. So what's it like it the future?
We're sending you a snapshot of us when we came back from
fishing at Camp Wilderness last summer.
(Danny is on the left w/ the big fishing pole and basket, and Jason is
on the right w/ the small fishing pole and bucket).
Your friends, Danny and Jason
P.S. (from their doll mom): If Martin would like to see
Danny and Jason you can go to juliestimecapsule.blogspot.com .
Julie (Newman) will write to Julie next week!
Look here's their picture!

Let's go look at their blog!
Look! There's Danny & Jason!
I can't believe we are looking into the past!
I am going to write back right now!

Dear Danny and Jason,
I found this time capsule in my yard. I am writing this letter back to you. I guess there are a lot of
things you may not know about the future.
Like, I am typing this on a computer, not a typewriter. In 2015 everyone has a computer, we even have
computers right in our phones – not a phone like yours though they are called cellphones. They are small enough to fit in your pocket,
OH and these phones are also a camera. Wow,
I am really starting to think so much about how things change over time. My Mom had to explain why your letter was
written on a typewriter. She had to show
me a picture!
I am very happy to have 2 penpals! Or should I say time pals?!? Hehe .
I guess you want to know about me.
I am 10 years old and in 5th grade. I live in California with my 8 sisters! I know huh?
It’s not easy. Can you believe
it? I may be getting a 9th
sister?!?! We are all adopted and we pretty much get along OK.
So, things I like: I
love World War II aircraft and Ferrari’s, well any super-fast cars. I like
my legos (they are a kind of building block that snaps together) and helping
Dad build things in the shop. OH, and I
will be going to MSU for college, that’s Michigan State University. I like baseball too! and basketball. My favorite super hero is Iron Man. But I also like Batman second. I am learning to skateboard and when I am
bigger Mom says I can take surfing lessons.
I also like fishing too!
My favorite TV show is Wild Kratts, Spongebob Squarepants, Avatar
and OH! Star Trek! My mom told me Star Trek was out in the 70s so you should
know it! There is a cartoon version I like better than the real people
version.
Well, that’s about all.
I hope I hear back from you again soon. Here’s a picture of me fishing
with my cane pole. Ok, so I am now going to print this on a laser
printer.
Martin
So, now I have to send the letter back to 1973!
Wow, groovy, hehe!
How cool! When I was in school we did a time capsule in 1976 to celebrate the bicentennial. I don't remember when it was supposed to be opened, hmmmm...
ReplyDeleteOOPS! I think you wanted to send the time capsule back to 1975, not '73!
ReplyDeleteOk Julie we re-sent to 1975! Let us know if it got there!
ReplyDeleteHey Martin,
ReplyDeleteJulie's letting us borrow her time capsule to write you. We're glad you got our message, and we got yours too. It's pretty groovy that you like to fish too. You look kinda like Jason but with a different haircut. Thanks for writing back.
Your 70s pals,
Danny Campbell & Jason Gerard
Hey! Danny & Jason, I am so glad you got my letter. Tell Julie Thanks a lot!
ReplyDeleteHow cool! Maybe I should put one in my yard for someone in the future. Great idea.
ReplyDeleteYes Sharon, I think you should!
