Madi's Trouble

Hi Madi, how was school today?

It was OK I guess.

Sounds like something's going on, wanna talk about it?

It's Joey at school, he keeps askinhg me where my "real" mom is.
I told him my adopted Mom is my REAL mom.
But he just kept saying, "No, I mean your real mom!"

Aw Honey, you were right.  Our adopted mom is our REAL mom.

Hey Madi, we all have birth moms, but our real mom is OUR adopted Mom.
She takes care of us and everything we need.

What's going on Madi?

Nell, I never knew my birth mom, so
I just wondered why she gave me away?

OH! She loved you VERY much Madi, you and Martin,
but she was very young and knew she was not ready to be a mom.
She loved you enough to make sure you had a family to take care of you.
So here you are!

Hey Madi, what's up?
Oh hi Layla, I was just telling them about Joey at school asking who my REAL mom was.
Joey Johnson? Oh, don't let Joey bother you, he just likes to make trouble!

Just remember, being adopted is special because
we have so many people who love us!

Thanks I feel better.

What a nice ending to the story, Madi is lucky to have such a supportive family! Why do some people have to be so mean?

Thanks Flo, this is a conversation Sophie has had with other kids. Because it is obvious we don't look alike it causes lots of questions. It used to upset her a lot, but now she is a pro at explaining about being adopted!

What makes me angry about that is you know where most of these kids get their information... :( Glad to hear that she has figured out how to handle it when it comes up.

Great story! Our church has New Life Ministry which helps girls in need to place their babies within good Christian homes. Just yesterday I was at a luncheon that spoke of this. It is a ministry to both the birth mom and the adoptive parents. The ministry goes on continually before and after the birth of the child.

Thanks Linda, I think that is awesome that your church has this ministry. Adoption is such an amazing blessing as well as an adventure! Both my kids know their birth-moms, I think it is SO important for their personal development to have these relationships.

Flo you are exactly right! Some of the rudest questions I have been asked came from adults! I actually understand children having some curiosity.
